UBUNTU Community GYM in UBUNTU Village
Report: Misuse of Funds for Ubuntu Community Gym Project
Project Name: Ubuntu Community Gym in Ubuntu Village
Allegation: Funds were raised for a community gym but were not used as promised, suggesting fraudulent acquisition of donations.
Key Issues:
Funds Raised Under False Pretenses
- The project solicited donations for a community gym in Ubuntu Village, claiming it would benefit local residents.
- Contributors believed their money would go toward construction, equipment, or operational costs.
No Gym Delivered Despite Fundraising
- After funds were collected, no gym was built (or it was abandoned incomplete).
- No financial transparency or proof of expenditures was provided.
Suspected Misappropriation of Funds
- Money may have been diverted for personal use or unrelated expenses.
- Donors who asked for updates were ignored, blocked, or given excuses.
Evidence of Fraud
- False progress reports (if any were given).
- Lack of accountability when questioned.
- Refusal to refund donations despite failure to deliver.
Why This Is Fraudulent:
- Deception: Donors were misled into believing funds would support a real project.
- Theft by Conversion: Money was collected for a specific purpose but not used as promised.
- Violation of Trust: Exploiting community goodwill for personal gain.
Next Steps for Affected Donors:
- Document Evidence: Save receipts, emails, screenshots of promises.
- Report to Authorities:
- South African Authorities (if Ubuntu Village is in SA): SAPS, National Consumer Commission.
- Online Fraud: IC3 (if donations were digital).
- Warn Others: Share this report on scam-tracking platforms.

One of the most anticipated events in the many UBUNTU community projects is the NEW Community Gym - that will be placed right next to the community hall and community kitchen at the revamped town hall. It is the perfect setting for this gym, which will be attached to the old run down ladies bar. It has its own entrance although it is connected to the main Community hall as well. This will make the UBUNTU Community Hall even more of a TRUE community centre, bringing people together for various activities. But this is also one of the key ways in which we unite a divided community to work together on other community projects.
The use of the gym will be integrated into the community projects - and everyone who works in any of the community projects that benefit the community, will have free use of the gym - while those who do not contribute in the community projects will simply pay a monthly fee. The money from the membership fees will be used to buy the food for the community kitchen that feeds the people and other expenses to keep the gym going.
The $10,000 will enable us to install a small state of the art gym that everyone will be proud of with all the basic equipment you would expect in a small gym.

The gym is without doubt one of the most anticipated activities in the township. The people ask me every day - "when are you opening the gym" with great excitement.
List of Items & Expenses
$10,000 does not sound like much for starting a gym - but in South African Rands - this equates to about R100,000 which will give us a great little gym with more than we need to get started. Over and above the actual gym equipment, we also need basic things like carpets, paint, mirrors, TV monitors, dressing room, toilets, air conditioning, lighting, new doors, replace broken windows, benches, water dispenser (since our tap water is undrinkable), vacuum cleaner, cleaning equipment, and more.
Please spread this campaign as widely as you can to the interest groups in the GYM and health groups.
